7 injured in mass shooting in Orlando: report

A mass shooting in downtown Orlando, Florida left 7 people in hospital on Sunday (local time), while the attacker is still at large.

Violence broke out around 2 a.m. ET after a major fight broke out, Orlando Police Chief Eric D Smith said.

An unidentified assailant pulled a gun and fired into the crowd, injuring seven people, CNN reported.

All seven victims were taken to a nearby hospital, where they were admitted in stable condition, Smith said.

Authorities do not immediately have a description of the shooter.

According to the nonprofit Gun Violence Archive, the US has had at least 381 mass shootings this year. That’s an average of more than 1.7 mass shootings per day, CNN reports.

On May 24, a mass shooting occurred at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, killing several people, including 19 children. According to CNN, this was the deadliest attack since the 2018 shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, which killed 17 people.
