Indian Prime Minister Modi was right that the current era is not of war, said France’s Emmanuel Macron

New York:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was right when he said the time is not yet right for war, French President Emmanuel Macron said at the ongoing 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City.

“Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India was right when he said that the time is not for war. It is not for revenge against the West, or for resistance against the West against the East. It is the time for a collective time for our sovereign equal states. To face together the challenges we face,” he said.

This statement was a reference to the conversation between Prime Minister Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which the former said: “The current era is not of war and I spoke to you about it during the call. Today we have the opportunity to talk about how we progress on the path of peace. India and Russia have been together for decades.”

The prime minister said this during a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

“We have had several telephone conversations about India-Russia bilateral relations and various issues. We need to find ways to address the issues of food, fuel security and fertilizers. I would like to thank Russia and Ukraine for helping to evacuate our students from Ukraine,” added PM Modi.

Commenting on Prime Minister Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he is aware of India’s stance on the conflict in Ukraine and “we want this all to end as soon as possible”.

“I know about your position on the conflict in Ukraine. I know about your concerns. We want this all ended as soon as possible,” Putin said.

“But the other side, the leadership of Ukraine, has claimed … that they refuse to participate in the negotiation process. They said that they want to achieve their goals, as they say, militarily on the battlefield. We will keep you informed of everything that happens there,” he added.

“The rare accusation showed that the 69-year-old Russian strongman came under extraordinary pressure from all sides,” the Post said.

Putin said relations between Russia and India are in the nature of a privileged strategic partnership and continue to develop very rapidly.

“We are actively involved in international platforms. We are discussing international issues. Sometimes these issues are not very good news…”, he said.
