Beijing: Beijing districts are being shut down as cases rise – Times of India

BEIJING: The Chinese capital Beijing on Monday began testing millions of residents and closing residential and business districts amid a new outbreak of Covid-19.
Although just over 40 cases have been found in the city of more than 21 million since the outbreak Friday, authorities have taken extreme measures to prevent the virus from spreading further.
Residents stayed at home and stocked up on food to protect themselves from the possibility of being locked up indoors, as has happened in several cities, including the financial center of Shanghai.
The central city of Anyang, along with Dandong on the border with North Korea, also announced lockdowns as the omicron variant spreads across the vast country.
China’s borders remain largely closed as the harsh response and economic impact of the pandemic continue to grow.
