Four injured in grenade explosion at Afghan cricket match – Times of India


KABUL: A grenade explosion during a match at Afghanistan’s main cricket stadium, four spectators were injured and the match was briefly halted on Friday, officials and police said.
The explosion occurred during a match between Pamir Zalmic and Band-e-Amir Dragons in the country’s domestic T20 competition, held at the Kabul International Cricket Stadium.
Hundreds of people attended the game on Friday, the weekly holiday in Afghanistan.
spokesman for the Kabul . police Khalid Zadrani said the blast was caused by a grenade, adding that the game was halted for a few minutes.
It injured four spectators, the chief executive of the Afghanistan Cricket Board said Naseeb Khan.
“The players, staffers and foreigners are all safe,” he said on Twitter, without giving details.
This year’s edition Shpageeza Cricket League — the eighth season — is the first tournament of its kind since the Taliban seized power in August last year.
The eight teams have many players from the country’s national team.
Cricket is a popular game in Afghanistan, with many of its players gaining international recognition.
While the level of violence in Afghanistan has fallen since the Taliban takeover, the jihadists Islamic State group has carried out several bombings and firearms attacks in recent months.
