Rep. Darrell Issa said the president’s son’s computer is a “treasury” of incriminating information
California Representative Darrell Issa (R) told Fox News on Sunday that the GOP is in possession of Hunter Biden’s laptop and is investigating the “treasury” of data in it. Meanwhile, party leaders are already planning to investigate the contents of the laptop — which the White House initially wrote off as “Russian disinformation” — if they come back to power in November.
“It must be followed all the way back to the big man,” Issa said, referring to an email from the laptop describing a business deal in China that: “the big man”, apparently a reference to Joe Biden would yield 10%.
“We need a special prosecutor, but in the meantime, we’re investigating,” he continued. “We have the laptop and the laptop is a treasure of self-evidence.”
Issa said the computer contains evidence of direct communication between Joe and Hunter Biden while the first vice president was evidence that Joe Biden “sure his business deals went through”, including in Russia and China, and evidence of Hunter’s drug use that could have left the vice president’s son vulnerable to blackmail by foreign intelligence.
Joe Biden has repeatedly denied communicating with his son about his foreign affairs.
The contents of the laptop were first reported by the New York Post ahead of the 2020 US presidential election, and were rejected at the time by the Biden campaign and some US intelligence and media outlets as part of a “Russian disinformation” operation to get Donald Trump re-elected. Major social media companies, including Twitter and Facebook, banned the sharing of reports on the laptop.
However, the authenticity of the laptop, which Hunter allegedly left in a Delaware repair shop, has since been independently verified, and the New York Times and Washington Post now admit the contents are genuine.
Emails from the laptop describe Hunter Biden’s involvement in numerous foreign business ventures, including a high-paying stint on the board of a Ukrainian energy company, multimillion-dollar deals in China that depended on him introducing partners to his father, and an alleged plan to arranging funding for a Pentagon contractor to study hazardous biological agents in Ukraine. Photos allegedly taken from the laptop also detail Hunter’s sexual tendencies and drug use.
The Justice Department is currently investigating Hunter’s overseas transactions, allegedly targeting the Biden family’s ties to Chinese energy executives. However, Republicans want to go further.
House Republican Conference Chairman Rep. Elise Stefanik (New York) promised earlier this month, if the GOP were to retake the House in the November midterm elections, “We will serve as a check on the failed Biden administration, and that begins with the subpoena of Hunter Biden.”
“The House Oversight Committee Will Be All Over Hunter Biden,” Rep. James Comer (R-Kentucky) told Politico. “We are going to target Hunter Biden not for political reasons, but because we believe he is a threat to national security.”
