Italian police arrest most wanted mafia boss Matteo Messina Denaro – Times of India

MILAN: The Italian Carabinieri police were arrested on Monday Matteo Messina Denarothe country’s most wanted mob boss who had been on the run for three decades.
Messina Denaro, who was detained in the Sicilian capital Palermowould be a boss of the Sicilian Cosa Nostra Mafia.
He was sentenced to life in absentia for his role in the 1992 murders of anti-mafia prosecutors Giovanni Falcone and Paolo Borsellino.
He also faces life imprisonment for his role in bombings in Florence, Rome and Milan that killed 10 people the following year.
Police said in September 2022 that despite his long disappearance, he was still able to issue warrants regarding the way the Mafia was run in the area around the western Sicilian city of Trapani, his regional stronghold.
