Kiev: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin in Kiev, his office said Sunday.
It was the first meeting between Zelensky and US officials since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began on February 24.
“Today, the Ukrainian people are united and strong, and the friendship and partnership between Ukraine and the US is stronger than ever!” Zelensky tweeted Sunday.
Presidential aide Oleksiy Arestovych, speaking in a YouTube interview earlier Sunday, confirmed the meeting was underway.
“Talk to the president. Maybe they can help.’ he added.
Arestovych reiterated Ukraine’s call for offensive weapons, “because as long as there are no ‘offensives’ there will be a new Bucha every day,” he added, referring to the city where UN officials said they were investigating the illegal killings of about 50 had documented. citizens.

During his YouTube interview, Arestovych said in the Black Sea port of Mariupol, where the remaining Ukrainian troops are surrounded, the defenses are “on the verge of collapsing”.
