nawaz: ‘Exiled’ Nawaz Sharif to be back in Pakistan after Eid, facing the courts – Times of India

ISLAMABAD: Former three-time Prime Minister of Pakistan, Nawaz Sharif, will return to the country after Eid to voluntarily face legal proceedings in all cases against him, federal minister and PML-N leader Javed Latif said on Wednesday. He also revealed that PPP had named party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari for the vacant foreign minister’s position and that he would be sworn in for the office upon his return from London.
Nawaz, whose third term as prime minister ended in 2017 when he was forced to resign in accordance with the Supreme Court decision in the Panama Papers case, flew to London in November 2019 to receive treatment for several ailments.
“Nawaz Sharif will be seen in Pakistan after Eid,” Latif said in a video statement a day after the 37-strong cabinet of new Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif took the oath of office.
On the cases pending against Nawaz, the minister said that PML-N believed in the sanctity of the legal process and would accept any ruling from the courts.
Farhatullah Babar, secretary general of the PPP, said party chief Bilawal visited London mainly to meet Nawaz and congratulate him on the new coalition government.
A two-member bench of the Lahore Supreme Court is slated to hear a petition filed by PML-N to remove Nawaz’s name from the no-fly list. His name was put on the exit checklist by the former PTI-led government after he made a long-range comeback in politics in 2020 by breaking a two-year silence to expose the country’s powerful military and to swear that he would overthrow Imran Khan.
