Peak in GST Collections in Himachal

Shimla, May 1 (IANS) The Ministry of Taxation and Excise in Himachal Pradesh said on Sunday that it made its all-time high of Rs 497 crore under GST in April, up 17 percent from Rs 426 crore to Rs 497 crore.

In 2021-22, the department had exceeded the annual GST targets by about Rs 248 crore with a collection of Rs 4,390 crore.

A government statement said the department was considering a capacity and revenue increase project to improve GST collections. The project is mainly aimed at improving the ICT (information and communication technology) infrastructure of the department.

The department is also setting up a GST training cell for continuous capacity building of officers. The implementation of the departmental restructuring, which has been mainly approved by the cabinet along with well-trained tax officials, is expected to give further impetus to GST revenue collection in the coming financial year, it said.

Improving the filing of returns, rapid verification of returns, timely completion of GST audits, and enhanced enforcement remain areas of focus for the department.

The department has focused on improving about 2.5 lakh e-waybill verifications performed in the previous year while checking the road. It is committed to improving voluntary compliance with time-bound recovery from stakeholders’ issues under the Tax Haat program.
