Texas: Texan Senator: School Police Chief Knew Nothing About 911 Calls – Times of India

UVALDE: The commander at the scene of a Texas school shooting was unaware of panicked 911 calls from the schoolhouse, a Texas state senator said Thursday.
sen. Roland Gutierrez said pleas from people within Robb Elementary, while the shooting took place on May 24, did not find their way to school district police chief Pete Arredondo. The Democratic senator called it a “systemic flaw” that the calls went to city police but were not communicated to Arredondo.
“I specifically want to know who received the 911 calls,” Gutierrez said at a news conference, adding that no person or entity was fully responsible for the massacre.
“There were mistakes at every level, including at the legislative level,” Gutierrez said.
Steven McCraw, the head of the Texas Department of Public Safety, said last week that police had slowed down to break into the classroom where the gunman had been holed up because Arredondo believed the situation had changed from an active shooting to a hostage situation.
Nineteen children and two teachers were killed in the attack on Robb Elementary School, the deadliest school shooting in nearly a decade.
Funerals for the dead have started this week.
