WASHINGTON: The US will boost trade with Taiwan in response to China’s “provocative” behavior, the White House said Friday, as it pushed for the right to air and sea navigation through the tense strait.
A new trade plan will be unveiled in days as US troops de Taiwan Strait in the coming weeks, said Kurt Campbell, White House coordinator for Asia-Pacific issues and adviser to President Joe Biden.
The statement came after Beijing raged during last week’s trip american house speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is launching his largest military exercises ever around the self-ruled island.
The US reaffirms its commitment to the area, while reiterating its policy of “strategic ambiguity” – recognizing diplomatic China while supporting Taiwan’s self-government.
