MEXICO CITY – The second tropical storm of the season in the eastern Pacific Ocean formed off the coast of southern Mexico on Tuesday, although forecasters said it is unlikely to pose a threat to the country.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Tropical Storm Blas could reach hurricane strength late Wednesday before losing strength as it surged into the open ocean.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (75 mph) late Tuesday morning and it was centered about 380 miles (615 kilometers) south-southeast of Manzanillo, Mexico. Blas was moving north at 2 mph (4 kph).
