“He hopes to talk about what can be done to urgently bring peace to Ukraine,” UN spokesman Eri Kaneko said.
In an effort to end the war in Ukraine, the UN chief wrote separate letters to the leaders of Russia and Ukraine, requesting a meeting with each of them in their respective capitals, UN news reported last Wednesday.
He is currently working with the government of Ukraine to schedule a meeting in Kiev with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The announcement comes ahead of the UN’s next call for Ukraine, which is scheduled for next week.
