Many Malaysians hoped polls would lead to political stability, but the vote failed to produce an outright winner.

A compromise appears to be the only way forward for politicians in Malaysia after a very tight race failed to produce a clear winner for parliament.

A coalition between the frontrunners is now the only way to form a government.

If no compromise is reached, the king may appoint a politician as prime minister whom he believes can command a majority in parliament.

So what’s going to happen now?

And what does it mean for democracy in the country?
