The wives of Russian soldiers fighting in the Donbas region of Ukraine staged a protest, seeking information about the whereabouts of their husbands. It has been more than 100 days since the war started and Russia’s recent focus has been on the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine.

A video of the women’s protest has surfaced on social media in which, according to a news week report. The women, who speak the local language, say they haven’t heard from their husbands for four months and are not getting any information, the outlet said.

“We are the wives of the mobilized of the 121st Regiment, 2nd Battalion. At this point, we have not known where our husbands are for four months,” a woman is heard to say in the video. news week

The protest took place last week in the breakaway Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The men from the region were ordered to mobilize in February, just days before the war in Ukraine began.

This comes just days after a protest last month in the neighboring Luhansk region of eastern Ukraine. The women there demanded an end to the forced mobilization and an investigation into all such cases.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Tuesday that the fight against Russian troops in Donbas will determine the course of the war.

“Staying there in Donbas is crucial. Donbas is the key to deciding who will dominate in the coming weeks,” he said in a video address.

According to regional governor Sergiy Gaiday, Ukrainian forces have been pushed back from central Severodonetsk, while Russians control 70 to 80 percent of the city in their bid to encircle the city.

Conquering Severodonetsk would open the way to Sloviansk and another major city, Kramatorsk, in Moscow’s attempt to capture Donbas, a mostly Russian-speaking region partially controlled by pro-Kremlin separatists since 2014.
