Zelensky urges world leaders to end war by year’s end: report

Volodymyr Zelensky said that a war that passes through winter can also rage on.

Castle Elmau, Germany:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday urged world leaders at the G7 summit to do their utmost to end the Russian invasion of his country by the end of the year, a source told AFP.

In his closed-door speech via video link to the leaders’ meeting in the German Alps, Zelensky said the combat conditions would make it more difficult for his troops as they ramp up their fight.

A war that raged past winter also threatened to rage further, he said.

He therefore urged G7 leaders to do their utmost to end the war by the end of the year, including by stepping up sanctions against Russia, the source said.

Despite the many rounds of punitive measures that Western allies have unleashed on Moscow, Zelensky pleaded with them “not to lower the pressure and continue to punish Russia massively and severely”.
